How to Turn On the Subtitles

Captions live in the lesson player itself, so you turn them on from the video rather than from a setting somewhere else.

1. On a computer or laptop

Click the video to bring up the controls, then use the captions control at the bottom of the player. Where a lesson has more than one language, you pick it from the same menu. There is also a style setting, which is worth using if the text is hard to read against the drawing.

2. On an iPad

Put the video into full screen first. The controls hide quickly otherwise, and the captions button is the one people cannot find. Once you are full screen, it works exactly as it does on a computer.

3. If a lesson has no captions at all

Caption languages are set per lesson rather than across the whole library, so a newer course may have fewer than an older one.

If a lesson you are watching has none, send us the course and lesson title at support@freya.art. Some older lessons are still being captioned, and knowing which one you need moves it up the list.

While you are in those controls

A few other things people ask about separately live in the same place:

  • Playback speed. 0.75 is popular for detailed steps.
  • Picture-in-picture, so the video floats over Procreate while you draw.
  • Keyboard shortcuts on a computer: space to play or pause, arrow keys to jump five seconds, and c to cycle captions.

If the captions button is still hiding

Open the lesson again from your course library at studio.freya.courses/courses, and go full screen before you look for it. Twotap courses and the Summit are at studio.twotap.art/courses, and landing on the wrong one forwards you rather than refuses you.

If it is still not there, go to help.freya.courses. Every answer we have is searchable there, and the contact form at the bottom of that page reaches a real person who reads it. Tell us the course and lesson title and we will look at that lesson for you.
